Questions You Need to Ask the Auto Repair Shop

You’ve been worried about your vehicle. Something seems to be off. Whether it’s an unusual sounds coming from under the hood or another issue that seems to be a cause for alarm, you know that’s time to bring it to an auto repair shop. Before you schedule the repairs, it’s important to ask the following 5 questions:

Do You Specialize on My Car Make?

For most vehicle makes, you could bring your vehicle to any place and the mechanics will be able to work on your vehicle. For German-made vehicles, it would be wise to make sure that the shop has the tools and techniques needed to work on the vehicles. Other makes that require a mechanic who has experience working on the vehicles include Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Volkswagen.

Are You Affiliated with ASA?

In the window of the shop, look for a sticker for the Automotive Service Association (ASA). This sticker will tell you that the shop is known for providing high quality work to their customers. You could also ask whether they’ve received a certificate through the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). This certificate is given through the organization for shops that they’ve visited and seen their level of service firsthand.

What are the Possible Causes?

Discuss the symptoms that you’ve observed. The repair shop should be able to tell you some of the probable causes. Of course, diagnostics should be done in order to determine the cause of the issues and the steps that should be taken to fix them.

What Are Your Credentials?

You don’t want just anyone working on your vehicle. You want someone who has been properly trained at a trade school and has had years of experience working on other vehicles. Find out what kind of training the technicians who will be working on your vehicle have. They should know how to work on the latest automobile innovations.

Can I Have a Written Estimate?

Once you know what the issue is, it’s important to get the estimate written down. Make sure that you know exactly what to expect in terms of service and what you’ll be expected to pay. When the estimate is written down, you’ll be able to guarantee the price. Along with your estimate, it would also be wise to ask about service warranties, too.

It’s important to complete the necessary auto repairs as soon as possible in order to prevent further problems. You shouldn’t just have anyone working on your vehicle. Take the time to ask the necessary questions to help you feel confident in the shops abilities to help get your vehicle back to great working condition.
